Dear Friends,
For those of you who don't know, I'm heading to Africa! I've been invited to serve as an Ambassador for the United Nations' HERO Campaign.
At the end of June, we will head to South Africa and Namibia for the entire month of July. I will be serving along with 5 other senior counselors supervising 25 Youth Ambassadors. Together, we will be providing school-based support for orphans and vulnerable children living in HIV/AIDS-affected communities.
This is such a huge and exciting opportunity for me. Many of you know how much my life changed after becoming a part of Camp TLC, a one-week summer camp for inner city teens living with HIV/AIDS. Working with young people in Africa, especially those that will come back and tell of their experiences here, is a dream come true. What we are doing, in essence is helping to create "global citizens," people who aren't definied by a culture, a location...or a disease. It's my opinion that the more people that are able to see the world like this, the better off we all will be.
So all that being said, I need your support. In lieu of doing the AIDS Walk this year, I have decided to put my efforts into making certain that my trip there is taken care of and that funding can instead go towards improving the quality of life for the children we will be meeting.
For a donation of $50, we will be able to clothe a child for one year. This will include a sweater, a light jacket, 2 pairs of shoes, pants & shorts for boys and 2 dresses for girls. I have a goal of raising $5000.00 and I think with your help, it can be done. Please be as generous as you can afford... if that means $10.00, then great...if it means $500, even better. Anything helps towards our goal.
Thank you again for all the support you've given me in the past and thanks in advance for your support on this important effort.
Much Love,
Jamie
